This 13.9-kilometre circular hiking trail offers a unique opportunity to explore the heart of the Dobrinj area – its abandoned villages and traditional architecture. It starts in the tranquil hamlet of Kras, at the junction of the paths leading to Dobrinj, Dubašnica and the town of Krk. It will not take you long to reach Vela gromača, the island’s longest drystone walls, located on the highest peak of the Dobrinj Municipality (311 m above the sea) called Kuševica. The monumental stone walls are a form of traditional architecture that testifies to centuries of hard labour in perfect harmony with nature. Nearby are the remains of the Romanesque Church of St George from 1230, built in honour of the legendary saint who defeated a dragon.

Your next stop is the deserted village of Dolovo. Word has it that the most beautiful girls in the Dobrinj area used to live there. It is not known whether they owed their beauty to the nearby springs or to the enchanted ancient forests that will fire your imagination and introduce you to the world of dwarfs and elves. Walking among the abandoned stone houses covered with moss and ivy will awaken your nostalgia for the old times, and give you the zen feeling that only unspoilt nature can spark.

Leaving Dolovo, the forest path leads to Sveti Ivan Dobrinjski, followed by the asphalt section to the village of Rasopasno, named after tetterwort (rosopas in Croatian), the medicinal plant also known as ‘Mary’s rose’. The next stop, in Gabonjin, is the Park of the Glagolitic Script, which houses sixteen stone tablets testifying to the importance of the Glagolitic heritage. Keep going uphill along the Glagolitic Trail with 37 Glagolitic letters, all the way to the 14th century Church of St Peter. The spectacular panoramic view of the entire island of Krk and the Kvarner Bay just calls for a well-deserved break, before taking the macadam path through the typical island flora back to Kras, the final point of your unforgettable adventure.
